Fun With Photo Booth

October 5th, 2008 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Joanna, Just For Fun

My sexy Apple Mac has a build in webcam and also a rather cool programme called Photobooth, it basically applies weird effects to your photos and lets you preview them before taking…here’s some of the best of the weird photos Jo and me came up with when playing this afternoon!

Hancock

July 17th, 2008 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Joanna, Just For Fun, Media

Those readers who follow the blog closely will notice that I’m posting two posts on top of each other, they could go as one but it’s better if they’re separate I think!

Anyway, here is post one…if you read this before post two appears you have way to much free time!

Tonight using my trusty Orange Wednesday me and Jo went to Norwich to the cinema, I haven’t been to the cinema in a long time and although we went aiming to see Narnia we ended up seeing Hancock because the queue meant we missed Narnia.

I’m a bit of a Will Smith fan and think he is a brilliant actor, Hitch is one of my favourite ever films and although I’d heard a few bad things about Hancock from someones facebook status I really wanted to see it because the trailers I’d seen made it look awesome…and I wasn’t dissappointed.

The film flew by, a brilliant story-line, a very surprising twist that I didn’t see coming and an awesome ending. With the amount of Superhero films around at the moment Hancock could have just been another superhero film but it wasn’t, it’s very different from any film I’ve ever seen….well worth watching!

Ben Folds - Sheffield

July 10th, 2008 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Joanna, Music

On tuesday night Jo and myself saw Ben Folds live in Sheffield, it was a brilliant gig with Ben playing all the classics, making up some spontaneous songs and taking requests…it’s the best gig I’ve been to in a long time.

I got some good videos too and i’m working on youtubing them, however there’s some photos in the photo section of this blog and here are a couple of the best ones I took.

Two quick things…

July 7th, 2008 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Current Affairs, Joanna, Just For Fun

Firstly the issues against the council in sorting out some overgrown plants etc on Bristol Downs are ridiculous - link here

Secondly I’m off to Sheffield soon…it’s Jo’s birthday today and we’re seeing Ben Folds tomorrow…

I have a few larger, more serious posts in mind to keep checking the blog!

Orton Mere

June 11th, 2008 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Joanna, Just For Fun

Yesterday I finally took a day off…a real one…and did no work at all (minus a phone call!) and having Jo around in Peterborough seemed to be a good excuse for a wander in the sunshine. One of the bonus’ of Peterborough is that you can drive to beautiful countryside/nature areas within about 5/10 minutes, so we went to a place called Orton Mere and followed the path up to Ferry Meadows before having lunch and wandering around some more.

Of course the downside of the lovely weather is pollen which has invaded my nose rather dramatically the last couple of days.

I also saw the ‘Sex and the City’ movie last night having never watched the show on TV and I’ve concluded that the movie is similar to Macdonalds, in that it’s watchable yet complete crap really…it’s junkfood for the mind….don’t think I’d see if again or watch the TV show, but it was alright.

This last week…

February 9th, 2008 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Current Affairs, Joanna, Just For Fun

So here is the low-down of what’s happened this last week in Mark land.

1- Spring Harvest - my place on the spring harvest youth evangalism team is sorted…I’m no longer in skeggy but in minehead which is a shame and means a 6 hour drive but I’m looking forward to Spring Harvest

2- Oasis gave us the modules to choose from for next year and they look pretty cool, we had to think of dissatation ideas too so I’m pondering on emerging church and ways which young people relate to church.

3- I have a sore throat…I have a complete lack of voice, a sore throat, and currently a lemsip, I’m meant to be leading worship tomorrow evening at church so I may or may not be able to sing!

4- I’m looking forward to a week off - from thursday I start a whole week off….starting with a few days in Sheffield with the wonderful Joanna before moving onwards to Chester to catch up with hayley (and hopefully shane and rachel).

5- My itunes tour has took me past blink 182 and bowling for soup, both of which lasted forever and I’m not onto the letter C with the likes of Christina, The Corrs and The Cure to look forward to.

Anyway I think that’s the things from my week…I know I keep promising a blog and marriage and it is in the making, is just taking time for me to actually blog something serious!

Now sex can be ethical…

February 3rd, 2008 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Ethical Living/ Fairtrade, Joanna, Just For Fun

condomsI’ve just been linked to this site by Jo (in a jokey way of course, however she will hate me for putting this blog in the ‘Joanna’ category!) http://www.frenchlettercondoms.co.uk/ this site makes and sells fairtrade, ethical condoms which I think is genius!

The site that links to these fairtrade condoms is also christian: link!

Disclaimers: I do however believe that if you are planning on buying these you should be married ideally and I have no intention on buying them for a while!!!

Peterborough…and clocks

January 6th, 2008 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Joanna, Just For Fun

So I returned to Peterborough yesterday after 2 whole weeks off over Christmas and New Year which was fun…I got to see lots of people and catch up, spend lots of time with Jo and do a complete lack of work….I’m all unpacked now, just got my diary sync’d with my phone and have a little water powered clock on my desktop which Jo got me for Christmas.

To expand on my excitement at the little water powered clock let me add that this awesome cute little clock not only runs on water but could also be powered on coffee, orange juice, apple juice….and even BEER!

Now although I believe powering a clock on beer could make it smell and more importantly be a waste of good beer imagine the concept of a beer powered clock…it’s so cool!

Moving from beer powered clocks to Peterborough it’s good to be back yet slightly odd…I always find this 2 place lifestyle (Peterborough and Yarmouth) bizarre….it feels odd when you’re first back in either then you don’t like the idea of leaving…I’m quite looking forward to getting my degree out the way and having a job in a place that is home….none of this galavanting business!!!

2008 & Greenary…

January 1st, 2008 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Joanna, Just For Fun

So just when you thought you’d got used to writing 2007 it’s no longer the right thing to write…2008 is…and as we enter the first few weeks of writing wrong dates I though I’d blog.

This is the first hiynameismark.co.uk blog of 2008 and I hope you all had very cool new years….I spent last night in a few Great Yarmouth pubs with some friends and the very lovely Jo…(a mushy picture is at the bottom of this blog), which was cool, we stayed out until half two and made our way home to our individual pads!

And here we are in 2008…now those people who have been awake through 2007 will have noticed a bit of a plug for being green…and the greenary seemed to have hit me whilst Christmas shopping…now most of my shopping was done online, but the parts of it I spent around shops I spent time trying to use as little carrier bags as possible…and so I thought I’d share a couple of ideas to help you’re greenary n 2008!

1 - Buy A Bag For Life - We all know what a bag for life is, it’s a large, strong bag which you part for 10p of your money for, I think Sainsbury’s ones are the best because they’re made from recycled carrier bags to start with. If your bag breaks you take it back to the shop and they switch it for another.

2 - Keep your bag on your person - If you can put your bag for life in your coat pocket, in your handbag or even down your bra! This way when you’re out and about you don’t need to take a plastic bag from a shop…instead just whip out your bag for life (if you’re bag for life is down your bra I suggest extra care when whipping out so nothing else comes out!) and use your bag for life instead.

3 - If you order online try and recycle the packaging - HMV & Amazon both use cardboard to pack your goods which you can recycle…other companies may use jiffy bags, if so you can open these carefully and use them when you send people things…there’s not a lot you can do with plastic packaging so perhaps suss out which companies use cardboard packaging and use them more!

So there you have my thoughts to help your greenary…I’m sure as I think I shall post more…and now…here’s the mushy picture promised

Chatsworth Photos

December 9th, 2007 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Joanna, Just For Fun

As promised here are a few photos from me and Jo’s trip to Chatsworth house (big house!) on friday, the whole place was done up for Christmas which was pretty rad (sorry Ben!), each room had a different colour/theme. I took over 100 photos (or we did between us) but here’s some favourites…

A thought for halloween…

October 31st, 2007 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Articles, Christianity, Joanna

At the risk of people reading this and thinking it’s liberal I want to say that it’s not…I’ve been reading Phillip Yancey’s Book ‘What’s so amazing about grace?’ and he talks about showing grace and love to people and finding the line between ‘why can’t we all just get along’ and the ‘turn or burn’ approach.

Jo sent me an extract from a service sheet at CRB church in Sheffield where I was sunday morning. The actual article was taken from thesheepdip.co.uk but it had some good points which I am going to briefly explore!

Firstly it pointed out that Christians are all too good at complaining and telling everyone that they’re wrong and I agree…in fact read my blog for examples! Christians seem pretty good at letting everyone know when they think that something is wrong i.e. harry potter, homosexuality etc. In fact, Christians seem to be good at showing hate (just read the ‘hate mail’ from christians on xxxchurch.com) but how often do we do something positive?
This extract from the service sheet suggested that this halloween instead of pretending we’re not in to trick or treaters why not use it as a way to share about Jesus? The leaflet suggested explaining to the children that we don’t celebrate the darkness but the light and that being Jesus, they also suggested this quite corny (but perhaps effective) idea;

- Buy some Christian goodies! - Go down to your local Christian book shop and get some pencils, rubbers etc with Christian slogans and give those away

Personally I like the idea above, I also like the idea of explaining how we represent the light, I think in a world where Christians seem to be good at saying the wrong thing I think we need to stop saying that things are wrong but find a way to show Christ’s light through it.

By all means Christians should do alternative events and whatnot, but why not find a way to explain Jesus to the trick or treaters? Giving them something even though you don’t agree might be a good way of showing Christ’s love, it might provide an opportunity to talk about Jesus and perhaps it’s far more likely to be what Jesus did…I very much doubt Jesus would have gone out with a load of flyers telling us we’re going to hell if it’s celebrated!

Blogging from a strange and distant land…

October 27th, 2007 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Joanna, Just For Fun

Hello readers!
I bring you what is (I believe) the first ever tarkmiddy blog blog from South Yorkshire aka Sheffield (it might not be South Yorkshire, I might be wrong!), but either way it’s a blog from a strange land.

Whilst Jo works at ASDA and I procrastinate over this essay which I’m meant to be writing. I need to write about some youthwork that I’ve done…I can’t think of any!!!

I got a bit confused last week when I saw a pot of galaxy hot chocolate with a NESTLE logo on…are Mars owned by Nestle? does that in turn mean Masterfoods are? I’m confused! (Helsalata, if you read this perhaps you can answer!)

I’m currently listening to a band called ‘Dakona’, they’re a Christian rock band who are a cross between The Calling and Nickelback. It’s one of those CD’s I bought cos it was about £2 in a Christian book shop and found that it became one of the best buys ever!

I’m gonna stop blogging and try and do an essay, I have some fun fridge magnet word blogs to post soon so keep checking (if you don’t have a clue what I mean check the blog again soon!)
