Love

August 26th, 2006 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Articles

So today (well yesterday but I didn’t get time to blog) I was thinking about love, and in the context of, is love (as the Darkness say) Just a feeling or is it something more?

One of the things that entered my head when thinking about this was that of faith, Christians (me included) always say that when you can’t feel God we need to have faith (aka trust) that he is still there and with us, so could this same thing apply to love?

One quote I read about the difference between love and being in love says this ‘most of the time being in love and being infatuated feels the same. You get that wonderful euphoric feeling’

I think to an extent I agree, the excitement of being with someone, the buzz of excitement you get when you know you get to spend a whole day with them, or you get a text or whatever can be mistaken as love and it can actually just be infatuation however at the same time this co

Tom Delonge Knows His Bible!

August 21st, 2006 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Media, Music

Taken from an interview with Tom about Boxcer Racer

“I was writing these songs about the end of the world and all this crazy stuff, and then, you know, Revelations in the Bible speaks about the end of the world, and one day I was wondering if World War II was what Revelations spoke about,” DeLonge explained. “So I started looking it up, and the second bomb that was dropped on Japan was from a plane called Boxcar (actually Bockscar, but commonly misspelled Boxcar), and it kind of really freaked me out. At that point I didn’t even want the name, but it was way too late. I blame Travis for that one.”

Give me one good reason….

August 19th, 2006 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Media, Music

Earlier I listened to Give me One good reason by Blink 182 and here are the lyrics and my thoughts (the lyrics are in verse)

Why do girls wanna pierce their nose,
And walk around in torn pantyhose, oh yeah

Why do girls wanna pierce their nose? A question which I fail to be able to answer because it’s quite possible the most unattractive place for a piercing in the world..ewww…wise words from Mr Delonge! As for torn trousers? I guess it looks cool!

I like the ones who say they listen to the punk rock
I like the kids who fight against how they were brought up
They hate the trends and think it’s f*cked to care,
It’s cool when they p*ss people off with what they wear, oh yeah

When we look around at our generation (by which I mean my generation) there’s lots of dress senses, we have all sorts each having their own little stereotype to go with them and I guess throughout generations the reason for people dressing differently has been to stand out, take 70’s and punks, they certainly stood out, it’s about being unuique, but by being unique they end up the same as loads of other people!

Hate the jocks, the preps, the hippie-f*ckin scumbags
Heavy metalers with their awful, pussy hair bands
Counting seconds until we can get away,
Ditchin’ school almost every single day, oh yeah

hehe trends and stereotypes! Jocks and preps are a bit american but of course we have chavs, emo’s, punks, goth’s etc etc and we do the same, we make comments about chav’s being pregnant at 12 etc etc and though perhaps trends show it isn’t unlikely do we judge people before we meet them? or at least get to know them?

As part of my work experience to get on the Oasis course I had to do some work with The Princes Trust who basically work with Chav’s, however working with these really broke down the stereotype, they genuinly wanted to get something out of life and stop messing things up and I was shocked at this prospect from a chav! perhaps I shouldn’t have been but it does show how trends really make us prejudge people before we speak to them!

Anyway food is calling so I shall leave my Blink-182 post there and set it free into the world!

My ponderings this evening

August 11th, 2006 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Christianity, Media

And sometimes I think that I’m not any good at all
And sometimes I wonder why, why I’m even here at all
But then you assure me

I’m a little more than useless
And when I think that I can’t do this
You promise me that I’ll get through this
And do something right
Do something right for once

And so today, or rather this morning as it is a rather silly time, I have these lyrics in my head from Relient K from a song called ‘More than useless’, I have no idea why they appeared but it strikes me that Relient K have a very odd way of looking at Christianity, the song talks about God saying to us ‘You’re a little more than useless’ which once you realise what it’s on about actually kinda makes sense, other lyrics from them have included ‘It’s the beauty of Grace which makes life not fair‘ and ‘I know to live you must give your life away‘. These strangely put lyrics seem to really click with me, it is the beauty of God’s Grace which makes our lives as Christians unfair! Yes, I did say unfair, it is unfair that we get to heaven, we don’t deserve it but God makes our lives unfair! For some reason I like things put in odd ways like that, seems to click with me.

And in other news…

I read today that Travis Barker (Drummer of: Blink 182, Transplants, Boxcar Racer and +44)
will be divorcing his second wife, for me this confirms my thoughts that having Travis involved in something is a bad idea, everything he is in falls apart, 2 marriages, the awesome Blink 182, Boxcar Racer ended as did ‘The Transplants’ alongside a side project with a DJ, which of course leaves the question ‘When will Plus 44 end’ before they’ve even started.

I think the thing is I can’t see bands like Plus 44 and Angels and Airwaves lasting, I think at some point Tom and Mark will end up reforming blink (probably without Travis!), Angels and Airwaves (although awesome musically) is way too ‘I’m Tom look at me and my ego whilst I dance’ , though I think perhaps Plus 44 has more chance of surviving.

Anyway bloggers, here are my thoughts for the evening, I shall now have a bath and proceed to sleep at some point. Good night watch out for bed bugs!

Christians

August 7th, 2006 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Articles, Christianity

So it strikes me (and I already appreciated the irony of this blog) that Christians just love to find problems with things, the other week the bishop was quoted on the front page of the Sunday Telegraph condemning something pathetic such as ‘not recycling’ as a sin, we had the Da Vinci code where Christians leapt up in arms saying ‘It’s not true, stupid book trying to be against our beliefs’, Christians love to moan!

The back of the Tab Church in Yarmouth is full of moaning ‘Why Catholics are wrong’, ‘why reading Harry Potter will get you to hell’ and other up in arms stuff like that.

The great band Relient K once said ‘We see the problem and the risk, but nothing’s solved. We just say, “Tisk, tisk, tisk, and, “Shame, shame, shame.”.

We seem to spend a lot of our time complaining about things and being negative, we tend to be cynical of even Christian things, so we don’t see someone healed and think ‘Wow God is good’ we think ‘Hmmm, not sure I believe that, it’s just for money’, we might see a Church Charity event or worship service and not think ‘Good they’re reaching out, looking after people as Jesus commanded’ but instead think ‘I bet they just want money, or numbers in their church’.

The fact is that cynicism doesn’t help our relationship with God, yes it’s good to be aware that there are false prophets out there and things not of God but if we analyse everything in a negative sense it just makes us negative, we might even get to the stage where we don’t look at a beautiful sunset and admire God’s creation but think about something which takes away it’s beauty (I Dunne what that would be).

Last night I went to Awesome, and I admit I went in a negative mindset, expecting something that would annoy me, or make me question however I was very pleasantly surprised and it was great (I refuse to say awesome!), I think too often we think of things negatively, sometimes if we see someone up the front with a lot of personality we think they want credit because they’re being ‘Extravagant’ or have ‘Stage Presence’ or whatever you wanna call it, but why are we judging them? They could just as easily be up there in all sincerity because it’s what God has caused them to do, the bible says that through all things God works for the good of those who love him, when we look through the bible we see that God used all kinds of characters to do his jobs and he still does!

I think that negativity isn’t necessarily bad, it can be a good thing to be wary but when you question the motives of say a church service or the leader surely it distracts you from worship, last night at awesome I could have quite easily spent the time thinking ‘now why is he jumping? is it for show? why is he drumming that heavy? is it for show?’ but if I’d done that I wouldn’t have been able to worship God through the music because I’d have been distracted, the point I am trying to make through this whole blog and yes some of you may disagree is that when we come into the presence of God or hear about God’s work somewhere is if we are negative about it it just doesn’t help anyone at all. It doesn’t help our relationship with God to be bogged down with negative thoughts it kinda distracts us, and bloggers that is my wisdom for this evening, agree or disagree as you please and yes I agree that churches in the past have hurt people by either being completely wrong deliberately or merely making mistakes but at the same time church has helped so many people more than the ones it’s let down, the church is made up of humans, we screw up, we make mistakes, we’re selfish but it’s God we can trust.

Big Brother…

August 4th, 2006 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Articles

So we’re in a world where innocent people are killed everyday, people gain money by stealing and yet the world seems to revolve around Big Brother.

As you blog readers are aware I occasionly flick onto the BBC News Website to check out what’s happening with the world and a while ago I had a rant about how big brother seemed to be 1 - pointless and 2- obsessing everyone and todays trip to the BBC News website proves this yet again!

It seems that everytime someone is thrown out the big brother house firstly (because they were willing to be in there for months being watched be millions of people everywhere who find ‘good TV’ in the form of hearing a bunch of average folk talking about washing or some crap which if you wanted to hear a discussion about you could just talk to the people around you) they get a chance of fame, whether it’s getting your boobs out in NUTS magazine or trying to host a TV programme or just regular interviews which is stupid because lets face it, whether channel 4 want to admit it or not people are chosen for big brother because they’re the type of people who might make it interesting, sitting 5 muslims in a house just wouldn’t be TV, however a couple of large breasted sluts, a gay guy, a cross-dresser and perhaps some normal guy to lose his sanity and be hated by the nation because he isn’t sleeping with the other housemates do make ‘Good TV’.

Secondly by going into this house for a few months they somehow become special in society, people idolise them but why? They are nothing but usual people who have been stupid (and un-employed) enough to be able to sit around in a house on camera for a month or so. This whole nationwide (even worldwide) Big Brother crazy is stupid, I fail to see the facination and finding another article on BBC about ‘Ex Housemates back on big brother’ brings back my questions as to why people watch this and my conclusion…

Playing God! - The Sims became a hugely popular game for the very reason that we like to be in control, we like the idea of choosing what people do and I think the facination behind Big Brother is about control, the idea of being able to choose who stays and who goes is in my opinion the key to why people watch this pathetic excuse for TV! The idea that us as indiduals helps to choose who leaves means we are in control! We constantly like to search for power and we like the idea of being in control!

Anyway having reached that conclusion I had something else to expand on it but I completely forgot what it was so I guess I should leave and get some sleep, so readers I bid ye goodnight.

So today…

August 3rd, 2006 by Mark Tiddy Posted in Just For Fun

I feel that I am in need of a proper blog, however I’m bored and lacking inspiration and there’s not a lot happening in my head today (some would say that this isn’t anything unusual!), the last couple of days I haven’t really done anything, I’ve been working at Haven in the evenings however I think after Youth Work it just doesn’t seem particually furfilling, yeah, I like it, it’s nice and easy at times that don’t particually interfere with my life but at the same time it’s not as good as youth work.

So having reformatted my laptop I pay my first visit to my blog since the format and feel that I am in need of new blogging, but having spent the last couple of months filling the blog with my random thoughts I feel that each blog should probably be sometime a bit more ‘thoughtful’ than perhaps they would have been a while ago, anyway on those random thoughts I shall continue my search for blog inspiration and spend the day thinking of ways to waste it! hehe
